My Favorite TV Nurse

Hello followers. I want to talk about my favorite T.V. nurse and it’s not Jackie. I’m talking about Claire Beecham-Randall who later becomes Claire Beecham Frasier. This character comes from the T.V show Outlander. It’s a Starz original and is about to air its third season this year. It caught my attention while I browsing through channels one day because it mentioned a WWII nurse and her journey. I won’t spoil the series for you if you haven’t been watching but I want to focus more on the nursing side of Clair. Clair is a WWII nurse and the series starts with her caring for the wounded soldiers and covered in blood. On this particular day the war is declared over and Claire returns to her married life in England. She then goes on honeymoon with her military husband to Scotland. There we learn that Clair studies and uses herbs and plants for medicinal purposes. While out collecting supplies she falls through time. She falls back about two hundred years in Scotland. Here Clair builds a life as the primary healer for a Scottish Clan. She builds a life for herself during this time although it is difficult. She continues to use her nursing skills by treating people of the community and beyond even in the most dangerous of times. The show often shows flashbacks of Claire’s life as a military nurse that included rationing, a sleeping cot, sleeping in the mud after gun fire etc. Claire truly is a soldier nurse! Nightingale Picture Book

Hello followers. I found another great Nightingale resource. This is a great book to give to an elementary school age kid or to read to your littles ones. This book is very detailed but not too detailed that it will lose their attention. This book touches on many important dates for Florence. She was English but her parents were traveling in Italy when her mother gave birth in the city of Florence. She actually did not start practicing nursing until she was thirty-one years old because her parents did not approve of the profession. Hospitals were filthy and in horrible condition. Nurses and patients were often times under the influence of alcohol and so disease prevention and illnesses would be ignored. This book goes on to tell how Florence became a hero but she never considered herself as such. This was a great find with lots of great illustrated pictures. I purchased mine on Amazon and hope you will too. Thanks T-Tech Nurse. . As always be safe folks. Florence Nightingale: Laura Fraser

By | Nursing | No Comments

Hello followers. I found another great nursing film. This one is about Florence Nightingale and her influence during the Crimean War. Laura Fraser plays Florence and does an incredible job in my opinion. Florence was born to privilege and lived a wealthy life with her family. When she was sent to help care for soldiers during the Crimean War she was met with shun. Male military figures did not understand basic hygiene and how to prevent sickness. It was only after so many had suffered that Florence was given the opportunity to help with a team of nurses. She preached that cleanliness, hand hygiene, medication, and proper nutrition were what the soldiers need in order to survive and heal. She wanted to change the single and simple minded military and medical professions during this great time of need. This is the first film that I watched about one of the founders of nursing. Thanks T-Tech Nurse. As always please be safe folks. Consult your physician prior to starting any new regimen, program, treatment, medications or products. Classic Nursing Films 1927-1945

By | Nursing | No Comments

Hello followers.  I came across some great educational films about nursing history. I bought them on Amazon. Classic Nursing Films 1927-1945 is really informative and interesting to watch. There are several segments but the one that stuck out to me was the one about U.S. Army Nurses. I was amazed at how these women were out in basic training after being in school for three years. In basic training they show these women hiking and walking rough terrains, exercising and doing drills. These were literally true soldiers. They slept in a tent on a cot and had to be ready at a moment’s notice to provide care to the wounded. Their metal caps were used for laundry, sponge baths, and cooking. These women were there administering medication, assisting surgeons with instruments and anesthesia. They had to live the life of a soldier which I’m sure was not easy.   I could not believe it. Absolutely wonderful find on Amazon and I totally recommend. It’s not boring and won’t take up too much of your time. Thanks T-Tech Nurse. As always please be safe folks. Image result for old gadgets

Hello followers. I just wanted to make a quick post about recycling old technology. As we all know recycling is great for the environment. I see a lot of technology products sitting on the curb during trash pick-up day. I researched online and found out where to take my old technology gadgets for recycling so they don’t end up in a landfill. I found a great website for my city that has a calendar of when they come through and pick up the items or where you can drop them off around the area for recycling on certain days of the month. According to the article E-Waste Recycling Facts and Figures (www.thebalance.com), in 2014 the United States generated 11.7 million tons of e-waste. Those statistics are mind boggling. So do a google search and find when and where you can take your old gadgets for recycling. Let’s make earth a little healthier a step at a time. Thanks T-Tech Nurse. As always be safe folks. Image result for Period diaryHello followers. I have been using the period diary app for over two years now. As you know keeping track of your menstrual cycle is important. I like this app because it stores all the information that you put into the app. I have data going all the way back to 2015. This app will tell you when to expect aunt flo. You can make notes on how your feel on any given day of your cycle including acne breakouts, cramps, headache, cravings and all the little pesky things that come along with your cycle. It will tell you you’re most fertile and non-fertile days of the month. You can use the tools in this app if you’re trying to prevent pregnancy or conceive. There’s also a blog for making posts and reading/telling jokes. If you get bored with the colors inside the app you can change them to your liking anytime you want. Nurses Have Dry Hands

By | Health, Nursing, Self Care | No Comments

Related imageHello followers. I wanted to recommend another great product from Mary Kay. It’s called Night Emollient Cream. Dry hands are a part of nursing and is unfortunate at times, but we have to practice excellent hand hygiene at all times. I use this product day or night for my hands, face, and body. I already have pretty dry skin to begin with and it’s especially dry in the winter months. I use it for intense skin hydration or a smaller amount for a quick pick me up. Good hand hygiene is imperative in nursing and really for everyone. Soap, water, and hand sanitizer can all wreak havoc on your skin causing it to dry out and at times crack. My favorite time to use this great product is right before bedtime. I can rub it into my hands and let the product soak in overnight and when I wake up in the morning my hands are super soft and look refreshed. The formula is light weight and gentle on skin. A small amount goes a long way so the bottle will last a long time and you’ll get your money’s worth. Contact your local Mary Kay consultant to buy or you can email me I can put you in touch with my personal consultant. Thanks T-Tech Nurse. As always be safe folks.
